Apnapan: story from behind the bars

One of the most inspiring extensions of our work has been the Apnapan brand, launched in the correctional facilities. Through collaboration with prison authorities, we have provided employment to 250 prisoners across six prisons in Bharat. This initiative not only offers inmates a chance to acquire valuable skills, but it also empowers them to support their families during difficult times. The income generated helps alleviate the financial pressure on their families, preventing them from falling into distress or resorting to wrongdoings. Before joining the program, many inmates faced a bleak future—either returning to a life of crime or being ostracized by society. However, through the handloom training programs, inmates are taught skills that provide self-reliance and empowerment. The work they do is not just about weaving fabric; it's about weaving a future that offers them a second chance—a chance to start afresh.
